The Coastal
Wave network is designed from the ground up with
reliability in mind. With multiple connections to
separate upstream providers, traffic automatically
gets rerouted in the unlikely event that one of
the connections should fail.
Expandability
was also a primary target in the network design.
As Coastal Wave's subscriber base has grown, so
has our network. Since our network first went into
production, we have added dozens of tower sites
and increased our upstream capacity by more than
1500%. As the needs of our customers grow, our network
will comfortably grow to match.
Our core
network and wireless access-layer network is powered
by Cisco brand routers, switches, and wireless access
points. Cisco is known in the networking world as
the leader in Internet routing and switching technologies.
Coastal
Wave's wireless network also employs point to point
solutions from Proxim and Trango -- both leaders
in wireless broadband.
All of
our servers and core networking equipment are located
in downtown Port Clinton, Ohio. Our facility is
fully climate controlled. Our power system is backed
up by APC battery backups and an auto-start and
auto-transfer Generac Guardian propane generator,
allowing our network to function even during a long-term
blackout.
A solid
network would be nothing without a staff to support
it. The network is monitored 24/7 by advanced monitoring
systems. Wireless and network engineers are on-call
at all times to respond to any outages that occur
- at any time of day.
